ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester Police cruiser crashed into a car while responding to a call on Wednesday, leaving the officer and another person with minor injuries, according to the department. RPD says the cruiser had its lights and sirens on when it crashed around 11:30 p.m. at the corner of Campbell and Ames streets. Both the officer and someone in the other car, a 47-year-old man, were taken to the hospital. News10NBC s photojournalist saw heavy damage to the front of the cruiser, with airbags deployed, and a traffic light pole knocked over. One light became detached from the pole. RPD says the intersection will remain closed until the Department of Transportation clears the area. Police say the circumstances around the crash remain under investigation.
